As someone deeply concerned about the increasing appalling behaviour on social media platforms, I am horrified at the conduct of Chris Ship, a royal reporter for ITV. It is distressing to witness Princess Catherine sharing her condition in the face of disgusting conspiracy stories about her and her marriage. Chris Ship, an ITV royal reporter has participated attempting to humiliate and bullying the Princess of Wales and has failed dismally in expected reporting standards of decency. This is not only unprofessional but utterly disgraceful as a reporter on a major TV network, completely lacking in journalistic integrity, posing with known groups trolling the Princess of Wales, perpetuating claims from the outrageous to the grotesque.
We do not expect, but demand truthfulness, respectfulness, and professionalism form this network.
According to Ofcom's Broadcasting Code (Section Five - Due Impartiality and Due Accuracy), broadcasters must ensure that news is reported with due accuracy and presented with due impartiality. Unfortunately, Chris Ship's actions have shown a complete disregard for these principles.
The role of a royal reporter carries significant responsibility as they shape public opinion about figures who are often unable to defend themselves against false accusations or biased reporting. Therefore, it is crucial that this role be filled by someone who respects its importance.
We urge ITV to replace Chris Ship with a reporter who can carry out their job with integrity and decency when reporting royal stories. We believe this will restore faith in ITV's coverage of the royal family while also sending out an important message about professional standards in journalism.
