Demand Islamic Republic government in Iran to stop violence against children and women

The Issue

We are asking UNICEF and UN to be the voice of Iranian children victimized by brutal crackdowns by the government forces.

These days People of Iran, and primarily women and schoolchildren are protesting nationwide, chanting “women, life, freedom” and demanding justice, equality and liberty. These protests have been met with brutal crack downs including deadly force by the government of Iranian Islamic Republic. The Tehran-based Children’s Rights Protection Society, in a statement on October 11, confirmed the deaths of at least 201 people, including 28 children. There are numerous reports of security forces chasing, beating, and arresting protesting schoolchildren on the streets and inside their schools. Iran’s Education Minister Yousef Nouri recently admitted that some of the arrested school students have been detained in “mental health institutions.” These are clear violations of human rights and more specifically children’s rights.

While the magnitude of systematic violence of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the protestors fits the definition of Crime Against Humanity*, the responses from the United Nations and UNISEF have, to date, been remarkably inadequate, limited to no more than issuing brief statements of concern. This petition asks the United Nations and UNICEF to be loud voices for the unheard protesting women, children, and students in Iran. We ask the United Nations and UNICEF to demand NOW that the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran immediately stop the ongoing violence, persecution, and rapidly accelerating atrocities against all peaceful protesters, including women and children.  We ask United Nations and UNICEF to petition the Republic of Iran to recognize people’s right to openly criticize the government. We ask the United Nations and UNICEF to use all available resources  to raise global awareness of these ongoing crimes. IN REALITY, WE ARE ASKING THE UNITED NATIONS and UNICEF TO RESPECT AND INITIATE THEIR OWN MISSION STATEMENTS AND CHARTERS.

* ‘a deliberate act, typically as part of a systematic campaign, that causes human suffering or death on a large scale’
