On a day that will haunt us forever, my partner Stephen Neal found himself in the terrifying situation of having to defend his home and his family from a violent home invader. The ordeal did not end when the intruder was repelled. It continued with the arrival of a detective, whose conduct has raised a multitude of concerns.

Allegedly, the detective did not follow due process. He allegedly neglected to gather crucial statements, failed to investigate the crime thoroughly, and even purportedly conspired to cover up evidence. Our belief is that he flagrantly lied and filed fake police reports, effectively protecting the criminal rather than seeking justice for victims of a brutal home invasion.

We are taking this stand because integrity in law enforcement is a key pillar of a just society. According to the National Institute of Justice, official misconduct and corruption can severely undermine the public’s trust in law enforcement. In 2019, a national survey showed that only 54% of U.S. adults had "a lot" of trust in law enforcement officers (Pew Research Center, 2020).

Stephen's experience with this rogue detective is a personal one, but it points to a systemic problem that needs urgent attention. We call upon the courts and other law enforcement agencies to take our grave allegations seriously. As witnesses to these actions, we demand a comprehensive investigation into this officer's conduct and subsequent legal action if found guilty of these serious transgressions.
