The Issue

As an accomplished writer and author, publishing my third book represents an important milestone, just like my first and second publications. However, there is something uniquely special about this one—it's my debut children's book, "The Brave Little Panther." This book is more than a story; it’s a tool for teaching courage against adversity to young minds. It’s a significant personal accolade that would add a valuable asset to ALL Jefferson County Libraries.

Regrettably, the City of Pinson and the Pinson Public Library have refused to include "The Brave Little Panther" in their collection, standing apart from the rest of the Jefferson County Libraries who have welcomed it. This refusal appears to be rooted in racial bias and intentional exclusion against a Black author. Such actions are not just personal hindrances, but a blatant act of discrimination and a disservice to the community that deserves access to diverse and enriching literature.

"The Brave Little Panther" isn't just another book; it’s a celebration of resilience in an inspiring story of a courageous little panther named Rose.

Denying access to such a narrative, particularly in a community library, limits the learning and growth potential of the children who eagerly await new stories.

A library should be a beacon of knowledge, inclusivity, and growth. By rejecting this book, Pinson Public Library not only distances itself from these values but also deprives its readers of the inclusive content they deserve. Every child should have access to stories and every author should be given fair treatment, irrespective of race or background.

I urge you to stand with me in fighting this unfair exclusion by signing this petition. By doing so, you will not only support the rightful inclusion of "The Brave Little Panther" but also champion the values of diversity, equality, and inclusion in our libraries. Together, let's push for the addition of this inspiring book into the Pinson Public Library and break the barriers of racial discrimination. Please sign and share this petition to make a difference. Thank you for your support.
