On a personal level, witnessing how the high school Athletic Director of Valley Vista High School in Surprise, AZ, has failed to ensure the wellbeing of our athletes, including my son, is deeply distressing. From the end of the 2023 season, a crucial position on our football team remains vacant. The situation has deteriorated to the point that we're reliant on other teams' athletic trainers for necessary assistance, particularly when a child gets hurt. It's an egregiously irresponsible and dangerous approach which directly impacts our children's safety. Moreover, excluding the cheer team from traveling with the football team has gravely affected the morale, crafting a somber atmosphere.

Nationally, nearly 1.5 million high school students are injured each year due to inadequate athlete support infrastructure, according to National Athletic Trainers' Association reports. This dire situation at our school not only reflects incompetence, but also endangers our children as it falls drastically short of the necessary standards for athlete management and care.
