As a long-time native of Toronto, I have come to realize the value and significance of every living creature in our ecosystem, including coyotes. These remarkable creatures play a vital role in maintaining balance by controlling rodents and other small animal populations, contributing to the biodiversity of our green spaces. Unfortunately, coyotes are consistently under threat due to ill-informed people with predatory dogs, causing undue suffering and disturbance to these animals.

In the city of Toronto, it has been noted that human activities and urban development are increasingly encroaching on the natural habitat of coyotes. The tolerance of these naturally shy creatures is being tested as their living spaces shrink and confrontations with humans increase.

Coyotes are not the culprits here, but the victims of unprecedented loss of habitat. The misguided fear and hostility towards these animals put their existence in jeopardy. They are crucial members of our ecosystem and their well-being needs to guard carefully to sustain a balanced and healthy biodiversity.

We are calling upon the city officials of Toronto to take immediate action: enforce stricter control and monitoring of dogs, especially in areas known to be inhabited by coyotes; launch awareness campaigns educating our community about the importance of co-existing peacefully with these creatures; and develop and enforce regulations that protect the natural habitats from undue human intrusion.
