As a deeply concerned citizen, I am alarmed by the increasing occurrence of sexual offences within our society. This issue is not only prevalent in the UK but also around the world. The current laws regarding sexual offences are inadequate and do not provide enough deterrence or justice for victims. It is heartbreaking to see that individuals who have committed such heinous acts often receive lenient sentences, failing to reflect the lifelong trauma inflicted on their victims.

Sexual offenders should face stricter punishments that match their crimes' severity, including lifetime imprisonment and mandatory inclusion on a sex offender registry for life. This would serve as a stronger deterrent and ensure that these criminals cannot harm others again.

According to statistics from Rape Crisis England & Wales (2018), approximately 85,000 women and 12,000 men are raped in England and Wales alone every year; nearly half a million adults are sexually assaulted annually. These figures underscore the urgency of this issue.

We need our government to reassess existing laws surrounding sexual offences urgently. We must protect all potential victims - women, men, and especially children - by imposing harsher sentences on sexual offenders.
