The Issue

Levi Moser was a promising young man, only 20 years old, full of life and dreams. He was driving to Tacoma's waterfront on a beautiful evening, accompanied by two friends—a 17-year-old passenger and a 15-year-old young woman in the backseat. They had planned to enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the beach. Tragically, Levi and his companions lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision with a speeding two-ton pickup truck driven by Gregory Steele.

Gregory Steele, a habitual offender with an extensive criminal history, was unjustly allowed to roam the streets, endangering countless lives. His reckless behavior and impaired driving shattered the lives of these families, leaving a void that can never be filled.

Every year in Washington State, hundreds of innocent lives are lost due to impaired driving. According to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, alcohol-related crashes account for nearly half of all traffic fatalities. Such senseless acts are not merely accidents—they are preventable tragedies that demand our immediate attention and action.

The legal system currently requires an aggravator for sentencing drivers under the influence in Tacoma and across the state. This loophole allows individuals like Gregory Steele to receive lenient sentences, continuing the cycle of crime and suffering for families like Levi's. This must change.

We urgently call upon local lawmakers and the justice system to take decisive action. Stricter penalties for drivers under the influence are essential to deter this reckless behavior. By removing the aggravator requirement for harsher sentencing, we ensure that those who endanger innocent lives face the consequences they deserve.

It is time to protect our community and make Washington’s roads safer for everyone. Join us in this fight for justice and prevention. Sign our petition to demand that state legislators prioritize this issue and enact stricter DUI laws to prevent more senseless tragedies.
