Demand Google to Continue Supporting Older YouTube Apps on Android 6-7

The Issue

I am one among many individuals who face recent difficulties in accessing YouTube due to Google's stringent update policy, which has resulted in the blocking of older YouTube apps on the Android 6-7 operating systems. On February 4, 2025, Google initiated a "force update" that has subsequently made our stock YouTube apps unworkable. This coercion to comply with the latest version, namely 19.01.xx, introduced an unwarranted [400] error rendering old app versions obsolete, and has not been a justifiable decision considering the convenience it takes away from many loyal users like me.

There is a growing concern among users, as this change was found imposed on selective Google accounts before being universally applied. An accommodation by Google to maintain the operability of older YouTube apps holds the solution to an extensive user base that still operates on Android 6-7. This decree is not one that simply affects few but an entire community of old Android users that feel left behind by the evolving tech-scape.

It is essential for Google to realize the urgency to rethink its force update policy that currently dismisses us and our right to be part of the digital dialogue. We ask Google to reconsider this exclusionary action, acknowledging our necessity and our right to access the YouTube platform. Please, sign this petition to signal Google to revamp their strict policy update and to give us our digital space back.
