As deeply concerned global citizens, We are  alarmed by the continued support of fossil fuel projects by major insurance companies. These include AIG, Zurich, and Tokio Marine who continue to insure oil and gas expansion. This is not just about the environment; it's about human rights too. The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) and Gulf Coast LNG gas projects are two examples where local communities are resisting these destructive initiatives.

The insurance industry plays a crucial role in enabling or disabling fossil fuel projects. By insuring these projects, they are effectively giving them a green light while ignoring the irreversible damage caused to our planet and its inhabitants.

Therefore, We call on these insurance companies to:

1) Immediately cease insuring new and expanded coal, oil, and gas projects along with the companies developing them.
2) Adopt robust due diligence mechanisms ensuring that clients fully respect all human rights including obtaining Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) from impacted Indigenous Peoples.
3) Actively support a just transition towards renewable energy sources.
