The Issue

We, the undersigned members of Mistawasis Nêhiyawak, call on Chief and Council to provide immediate, accurate, and transparent disclosure regarding the Agricultural Benefits Claim.

Why we’re concerned:

- February 5, 2025 – Government of Canada agreed to meet with Mistawasis Nêhiyawak to finalize settlement negotiations.

- April 28, 2025 – The federal election was held and completed. Any hold on negotiations would have ended then.

- May 2025 – Despite these key dates, Mistawasis leadership released a statement citing the “ongoing federal election” as the reason for the delay—even though it had ended a full month earlier.

- Nowmonths laterNo updates. No confirmation. No financial details. No community consultation.

Meanwhile, over $1.9 billion in Agricultural Benefits Claims have already been settled with other First Nations across the Prairies.

We respectfully demand:

1. Confirmation of whether our Agricultural Benefits Claim has been settled.

2. Clear details about the terms of any agreement—dates, amounts, and benefits.

3. A community-based plan outlining how those benefits will be used or distributed.

4. A public meeting where members can ask questions and receive answers.

Silence is not transparency.

If Mistawasis has reached a settlement, members have a right to know.
