Demand Frontier Airlines to reconsider rigid luggage policies

Demand Frontier Airlines to reconsider rigid luggage policies
The Issue
My name is Adrian Bernard, and I live in Spring, Texas. I am asking the public to stand with my family and demand accountability from Frontier Airlines.
I booked round-trip tickets with Frontier Airlines to travel to Orlando, Florida from December 23–27 to spend Christmas with my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our family lives far apart across multiple states, and this trip was carefully planned since May 2025 by my granddaughters—Reyielle (Stockton, CA) and Kevielle (Slidell, LA).
This trip was not just a vacation.
It was our first family trip together in 26 years, intended to bring healing, joy, and lasting memories for children who have already experienced profound loss.
Our family’s history includes deep sacrifice and tragedy:
• My daughter, Kawana Bernard, was murdered in March 1999
• After her death, I raised her four children in California
• Eighteen years later, in October 2017, my granddaughter—the oldest of Kawana’s four children—was murdered
• I am now raising two of her children
Despite financial hardship, we planned ahead and purchased tickets early at $158 each for myself and my grandchildren, Bentley and Bailee.
At the airport, while standing in line to check one bag, Frontier Airlines staff told us we could not board our flight because we missed their 60-minute bag check policy by one minute.
We were then informed:
• We could not fly without our luggage
• We would have to pay approximately $1,000 to rebook on a later flight
Because of this rigid and uncompassionate decision, my grandchildren were devastated, and our Christmas plans—long anticipated by a family spread across states—were destroyed.
There was no flexibility, no compassion, and no effort to help—only policy enforcement without regard for human impact.
What We Are Asking Frontier Airlines to Do
We respectfully but firmly ask Frontier Airlines to:
1. Refund the full cost of the unused tickets
2. Rebook our flights at no additional cost, or provide equivalent travel credit
3. Review and reform rigid bag-check policies that allow no reasonable discretion
4. Acknowledge the emotional harm caused to families—especially children affected by trauma
This is about more than a missed flight.
It is about basic human decency, especially during the Christmas season, for families who have already endured profound loss and who live far apart.
Airlines should serve people—not punish them over one minute.
Please sign and share this petition to help my family and to prevent this from happening to others.
Thank you for standing with us.
