As a dedicated employee of Grampians Health Ballarat, I am committed to providing the best care possible for our patients. However, the current closure of the main carpark has created an unexpected and significant challenge in my daily routine. I have young children who need to be at before school care by 6.30am, and I need to be at work for handover by 7am. The search for available parking due to construction works at the Base and St John of God Hospital makes this nearly impossible.

Moreover, my concern extends beyond just myself - many staff members do not work afternoon shifts out of fear of walking alone at night from distant parking spots. This situation is not only inconvenient but also poses a potential safety risk.

The city council's annual report shows that there are more than enough street parking spaces in Ballarat that could be allocated to hospital staff (City Council Annual Report). It is crucial that we address this issue promptly so as not to compromise the well-being and efficiency of our healthcare workers.

We call on local authorities in Ballarat VIC, Australia, to provide free street parking permits for all staff members while our main carpark remains closed due to construction works. Our healthcare workers deserve safe and convenient access to their workplace.
