The Issue

In July 2023, local Poughkeepsie man Frank Flowers assaulted his ex-girlfriend, slamming her head onto the floor and restricting her airway, and endangering their child by tackling her while she was holding the child in her home in Connecticut. Frank Flowers was originally charged with several felonies:  first-degree burglary, violating a family violence protective order, first-degree unlawful restraint and risk of injury to a child…along with several misdemeanors. In October 2024, the State Attorney for Litchfield County in Connecticut gave Frank Flowers an Alford Plea deal for two counts of first-degree criminal trespass. The punishment was a conditional discharge, NOT probation, where Frank Flowers could not engage in any criminal behavior for two years. On December 9th, 2025, Frank Flowers physically assaulted his new partner and endangered their child in Poughkeepsie. Frank Flowers was charged with misdemeanor charges of assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Frank Flowers is a prominent public figure in Poughkeepsie and his sister, Yvonne Flowers is the Mayor of the City of Poughkeepsie. On January 6th, 2026, Mayor Yvonne Flowers said on public record at a city council meeting that she will support her brother and minimized the domestic violence charges to “a family matter”.  Frank Flowers has also leveraged his involvement with charities to try to discredit the charges of domestic violence made against him.

On January 9th, 2026, Frank Flowers was indicted by a grand jury to have his misdemeanors upgraded to a felony of strangulation, which caused his case to be taken out of Town of Poughkeepsie Court and transferred to Dutchess County Court. When an abuser strangled a victim, the victim is automatically considered high risk to be murdered as they are 7.5 times more likely to be murdered.

On January 12th, Frank Flowers has a warrant out for his arrest in Connecticut for violating the protective order with the victim in Connecticut in October 2025 and was expedited to Connecticut.

Since then, Frank Flowers has also been charged with  TWO misdemeanors, Coercion in the Third Degree and Criminal Mischief. He is currently facing FIVE charges and has EIGHT active orders of protection against him.

We believe that Frank Flowers’ behavior is warning signs and if he is not held accountable, his violence will only escalate. We do NOT  think anyone should be above the law, regardless of what charity work they have done or who their sister is. We also believe that strangulation and endangerment of children is NOT a family matter, but is a serious lethality risk and crime and should be treated as such by politicians.

The next court date is May 28th at 2 pm at the Dutchess County Court at 10 Market Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. Wear purple and come PEACEFULLY protest in front of the court at 2 pm, showing that we want justice.
