Demand for Independent Central Probe into RCB Victory Celebration Stampede

Demand for Independent Central Probe into RCB Victory Celebration Stampede
The Issue
Dear Fellow RCB Fans and Concerned Citizens,
As a lifelong RCB fan, I share your pride in our team’s historic IPL 2025 victory after 18 years. On June 4th 2025, the victorious RCB team returned to Bengaluru, to share the moment of triumph with the loyal fans of RCB. We anticipated a grand celebration and a memory to cherish forever.
RCB had requested a parade, a safe and fan-friendly way to celebrate, but the government denied it. Instead, the team was rushed to Vidhan Souda for a bizarre, cheap spectacle: families of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister posing for selfies with the IPL trophy with total disregard for the sanctity of the sport. For the players, who had earned the right to share this victory with loyal supporters—not politicians— how hollow and degrading this must have felt! Once this unplanned and selfish charade was complete, the team was then rushed back to M Chinnaswamy Stadium to share the moment with the fans as a secondary after thought.
Tragically, the unplanned event at M Chinnaswamy Stadium turned into a nightmare. A stampede claimed 11 lives and injured over 30 fans, turning our celebration into mourning. While people were dying in the stampede, the ministers, including the Home Minister, were eating and taking selfies even though they were aware of what was happening outside the stadium gates.
RCB events are renowned for being well-managed, but the government took charge of this one, and their incompetence led to this disaster. Instead of taking accountability, the government started deflecting blame, first suspending the Police commissioner. When that did not work, they filed FIRs against RCB management, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and even Virat Kohli. A government letter dated June 5, after the event, raises suspicions of a cover-up, as it implies approval was granted post-incident. This is an injustice to the victims and an insult to fans who were robbed of a cherished moment.
Let’s be clear: Virat deserves zero guilt for his unwavering loyalty to team RCB, and for wanting to share this emotional moment with the fans. KSCA and RCB would have to bear responsibility only if they controlled the plan— which the government seized control of for selfish indulgences. The government must answer for this tragedy.
We demand an independent central probe to uncover the truth, deliver justice for the victims’ families, and prevent future tragedies. This campaign is our path to closure, healing, and accountability. Please sign the petition and share it widely. Let’s stand united for justice.
Sincerely
Vignesh
