Subject: Urgent Petition for the Immediate Increase of MBBS Internship Stipend to ₹30,000/Month Across All Medical Colleges in Uttar Pradesh.
Respected Authorities,
We, the collective body of MBBS interns and medical students representing the IMA Medical Students’ Network (IMA MSN), Uttar Pradesh, write to you to formally register our protest and urgently demand a fair and dignified stipend for medical interns across the state.
Currently, an MBBS intern in Uttar Pradesh receives a meager stipend of ₹12,000 per month. This amount is not only one of the lowest in the country but fundamentally fails to reflect the reality of our service. ₹12,000 is simply not enough.
### A History of Unheard Voices
We wish to bring to your attention that the IMA MSN UP has been consistently raising this issue through proper channels. Last year, our representatives formally met with the Hon’ble State Health Minister to present our grievances regarding this severe under-compensation. Despite our continuous, best efforts to raise our voices and make ourselves heard by the authorities, no actionable change has been implemented. We are now left with no choice but to escalate our collective demand.
### The Ground Reality: Why We Demand an Increase
The Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship (CRMI) is not merely an observational period; we are the frontline workforce of our teaching hospitals. We demand this increase based on the following undeniable realities:
Long Hours and Continuous Duties: Interns routinely work grueling 24-to-36-hour shifts, managing immense clinical workloads in emergency wards, ICUs, and labor rooms.
High Responsibility:We play a crucial, hands-on role in direct patient care and life-saving interventions.
Rising Cost of Living: The current ₹12,000 stipend is mathematically inadequate to cover basic survival, inflation, and educational expenses during this demanding year.
### The Disheartening Interstate Disparity
While we serve with the same dedication, our counterparts in other states are compensated with a dignity that reflects their workload:
Assam: ₹35,000/month
Karnataka: ₹30,000/month
West Bengal: ₹29,700 to ₹32,000/month
Delhi: ₹26,300 to ₹28,000/month
Tamil Nadu: ₹25,000 to ₹27,300/month
### Our Demands
In light of the above facts, and in accordance with NMC norms emphasizing parity and fair compensation, IMA MSN UP places forth the following unified demands:
1. Immediate Stipend Increase: An immediate revision of the internship stipend to a fixed ₹30,000 per month for all MBBS interns in Uttar Pradesh.
2. Timely Disbursal: Establishment of a strict mechanism to ensure monthly payments are credited without administrative delays.
We Serve. We Learn. We Care. We Deserve Respect.
An intern today is the doctor of tomorrow. Our duty deserves respect, and a fair stipend ensures a stronger, more secure future for the state's healthcare infrastructure.
We urge the Government of Uttar Pradesh to stand with its medical students, acknowledge our previous representations, and rectify this long-standing injustice immediately.
Together, we can achieve change. United Voice. United Strength. Better Future.
Sincerely,
IMA Medical Students’ Network (IMA MSN)
