Demand First Aid and CPR Training for Milwaukee Public Schools Bus Drivers

Demand First Aid and CPR Training for Milwaukee Public Schools Bus Drivers
The Issue
Could you imagine your child having a medical emergency on the bus and their driver not knowing what to do, potentially putting your child's life at risk?
Milwaukee Public Schools does not require bus drivers have CPR or First Aid training/certification.
We need to demand that Milwaukee Public Schools require bus companies to hire and train CPR/First Aid certified drivers only.
As concerned community members, the need for Milwaukee Public Schools' bus drivers to possess first aid and CPR training is paramount.
Children spend an average of 180 hours per year on school buses [source: American School Bus Council], and during these moments, emergency health situations can arise. Despite this, the current requisites for bus drivers do not include mandatory first aid and CPR training.
Equipping our bus drivers with CPR and first aid knowledge will ensure immediate response during emergencies and preserve the lives of our children while on transit to and from school.
According to the American Heart Association, effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival [source: American Heart Association]. Therefore, we must take this step to guarantee the well-being of our valuable youths.
We urge Milwaukee Public Schools to implement mandatory first aid and CPR training for all bus drivers. Please sign this petition to keep our kids safe.
