Demand FIFA Protect World Cup Visitors and Host Communities from Human Rights Abuses

Demand FIFA Protect World Cup Visitors and Host Communities from Human Rights Abuses
The Issue
Millions of soccer fans, athletes, and journalists from around the world are preparing to travel to the United States for the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup. But while FIFA promises the most inclusive tournament in history, it has stayed silent as the U.S. government launches sweeping immigration crackdowns, bans visitors from 39 countries — including World Cup-participating nations — and strips away the due process rights of people already living in host cities like Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, and New York.
FIFA isn't just a bystander. Its president, Gianni Infantino, has aligned himself closely with President Trump, hosting the recent tournament draw at the Kennedy Center and presenting Trump with FIFA's inaugural Peace Prize — all while violent immigration raids swept through the same cities set to host World Cup matches. FIFA has the power and the platform to demand better. So far, it has chosen not to use either.
The stakes are real. In 2025, 32 people died in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention — the deadliest year in two decades. ICE agents killed an unarmed 37-year-old woman, Renee Nicole Good, while she sat in her car in Minneapolis. Detention facilities are expanding. And the administration has made clear it intends to use major sporting events like the World Cup to advance its immigration and foreign policy agenda.
The 6.5 million people expected to travel to the U.S. for the tournament deserve to know they will be safe. Players, fans, journalists, and workers — especially those from immigrant communities, racial and ethnic minorities, and LGBTQ+ communities — face real risks of racial profiling, invasive device searches, deportation without due process, and worse.
FIFA has unique leverage to push the U.S. government to protect everyone who attends these games. But leverage only matters if you use it. Sign this petition to demand that FIFA stop staying silent, stop aligning with those causing harm, and start using its influence to protect the people who make the World Cup possible.
