The Issue

My son is a victim of Family Court in Canada. Although he is seen as a survivor, the scars of those experiences still haunt him in his adult life. His ordeal in the Family Court system has led to serious mental health issues and continues to impact his wellbeing. He is not alone. He frequently hears from others who are trapped in a similar nightmare. This pattern of harm must end immediately.

Family Courts, both in Canada and the United States, are increasingly being co-opted by dishonest parents, using the system as a weapon of revenge rather than a tool for justice. In these situations, the child's voice – the most critical voice – is disregarded in favour of claims of Parent Alienation, often silencing them and minimizing their experiences.

The children entangled in these legal battles are often unseen, their needs and voices drowned out by the din of courtroom proceedings and legal jargon. Judges and lawyers, while essential, should not speak over the children who are experiencing these life-altering changes firsthand. Instead, every effort must be made to ensure their voices are heard and prioritized.

Statistics indicate that countless children are affected annually by court decisions where the claims of Parent Alienation overshadow the truth. The emotional and psychological damage inflicted during these proceedings can last a lifetime, influencing their future relationships and mental health.

We need Family Courts to adopt practices that prioritize the interests and voices of children. This involves appointing independent child advocates to represent their interests in court, ensuring that the child's perspective is always considered. Judges and legal professionals should receive training to understand the impacts of Parent Alienation claims and to assess them critically, rather than accepting them at face value.

Furthermore, accountability measures must be enforced to deter any misuse of the Family Court system as a weapon of revenge. We must create a system that fosters fairness and justice, where children's voices are empowered, not overshadowed.

Our children deserve to be heard, their truths acknowledged and respected. Join us in demanding that Family Courts across North America recognize and address this issue with urgency and integrity.

Please sign this petition to urge the Family Court system to stop silencing our children and to start listening to them. Let's protect our children's future and strive for a justice system that serves them, not harms them.
