As an ARMY, I have been a loyal follower and supporter of BTS for many years. Through their powerful messages, inspiring music, and incredible performances, BTS has touched the hearts of millions, transcending language barriers and uniting people across the globe. Yet, despite their massive influence and undeniable talent, it is disheartening to witness how the Grammys have consistently overlooked BTS, leaving us to question the values of fairness, equality, and respect that should define this prestigious award.
BTS has revolutionized the global music industry - their albums top charts worldwide, they sell out stadiums with ease, and they have garnered over 100 prestigious awards from across the globe. They have dismantled stereotypes and brought Korean music to the international forefront, yet the Grammys seem persistently reluctant to recognize their monumental contributions. In 2022, BTS was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance but did not receive the award, sparking widespread discourse on whether a bias exists within the selection process.
Every year, as an ARMY, we eagerly await the Grammys, hoping to see our seven talented men receive the recognition they deserve. However, year after year, we are left disappointed and heartbroken when their groundbreaking work is snubbed. We believe that the values of fairness, equality, and respect must be at the core of the Grammys, ensuring that all artists, regardless of origin, are given an equal opportunity to be recognized for their artistry.
We are calling on the Recording Academy to take a closer look at its nomination and selection process. Transparency is crucial. Release a detailed report on how artists are considered and selected for nominations and awards, including criteria and the voting process. We also urge the Academy to ensure diversity and inclusion are prioritized in the decision-making bodies.
