Demand Fair Trial for Knight’s Application to Regain Access to Her Children

The Issue

I am a mother who has been denied the basic right of seeing her children. My children were wrongfully adopted, despite my application to regain custody being filed first. The Alberta family court, located in Edmonton, AB, Canada, allowed the adoption application to be heard before mine.

This is not just about me; it's about every biological parent whose rights have been overlooked in favour of adoption proceedings.

The Alberta family court should prioritize considering bio-parents' applications for parental rights before moving forward with any adoption proceedings. This would ensure that the interests and rights of biological parents are adequately represented and considered.

In my case, after the adoption was granted, the adoptive parents agreed verbally to allow me access to my children. However, no formal access order was made at that time. Now they are refusing me access and unfortunately, a Judges position was that since the adoption order didn't physically include access, access had already been considered, and thus we were looking to amend a superior courts order. My Lawyer took the position that a fulsome hearing took place but the judge was still unwilling to grant leave.

This is not only an infringement on my rights as a mother but also deprives my children of their right to continue to know their biological parent, Given that the bio-mother has raised them in their early ages, an been consistently fighting the Alberta courts since apprehension. - a right recognized by international law under Article 7 of UN Convention on Rights of Child which states "the child shall have...as far as possible...the right to know his or her parents".

We need your support in demanding that Knights' application for regaining access be taken seriously and brought into trial without further delay. Let us stand together against such injustices happening within our legal system and fight for fair representation of all parties involved in child custody cases.
