Demand Fair Treatment for Georgian Asylum Seekers in ICE detention

Demand Fair Treatment for Georgian Asylum Seekers in ICE detention
The Issue
We are deeply troubled by the unjust treatment of Georgian nationals seeking asylum at the Southern Border of the United States. These individuals, fleeing an oppressive and pro-Russian regime led by the ruling party, are being held in detention centers despite passing credible fear interviews and not being granted parole.
Many suffer from physical and mental health issues directly resulting from their experiences under the regime. This concern is amplified by the continued imprisonment of vocal opponents of the current regime, despite mounting evidence against the charges and support for their release from European and American governments.
Further compounding the injustice, this discriminatory treatment seems to stem from a mistaken association of Georgia with Russia, simply because of our past affiliation with the Soviet Union, which dissolved in 1991. Notably, Georgia was a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) until 2008, Georgia withdrew its membership in 2008 following the Russo-Georgian War that saw 20% of our territory occupied by Russia, further underscoring our independence and distinct national identity. Driven by a resolute vision for a Georgia free from Russian influence, these asylum seekers fled persecution for their unwavering opposition to the pro-Russian regime and their pursuit of closer ties with Europe and America.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) appears to be singling out Georgian nationals, denying them parole for unclear reasons. This is particularly concerning when compared to the release of nationals from countries with known ties to terrorism. Disturbingly, reports have surfaced of ICE officers explicitly stating that Georgians are being denied parole based solely on their nationality.
This situation not only violates basic human rights principles but also contradicts America's long-standing tradition of offering refuge to those fleeing political persecution. We urge you to take immediate action to ensure that all asylum seekers, regardless of their country of origin, are treated fairly and humanely. Please sign this petition demanding justice for Georgian asylum seekers in ICE custody.
