Demand Fair Pay and Respect for Rideshare Drivers

The Issue

I am a rideshare driver in Atlanta, GA, USA. Every day, I use my own car, gas, and time to provide a service that many people rely on. However, the respect and compensation I receive do not reflect the value of my work or the costs I incur. The current pay structure is heavily skewed in favor of rideshare companies who take a significant portion of our earnings while we bear most of the operational costs including maintenance expenses like wear and tear on our vehicles and tire replacements.

We are calling for transparency from these companies. We demand an 80/20 split in favor of drivers because we are the ones providing all the tools necessary for this job - our cars, gas, time and effort. It's only fair that we get a larger share of what we earn.

According to data from Gridwise (2020), rideshare drivers can spend up to $5k per year on vehicle expenses alone - money that comes directly out of our pockets while companies continue to profit off our hard work.

This is not just about wages; it's about respect as well. We deserve recognition for our contributions as essential workers who keep cities moving even during challenging times like pandemics.
