As a proud owner of a Tesla Model 3, I was excited about the advanced security features and environmental benefits that this vehicle offers. However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I discovered that the insurance rates for this car are almost double those of other vehicles. Despite having a Class 5 license with three years of Canadian driving experience, I am being charged $663.47 per month by ICBC - even after a supposed 10% discount.

This is not just my story; it's the story of many Tesla owners in lower mainland, BC who are paying exorbitant insurance rates despite our vehicles' enhanced safety features such as auto braking, pre-installed dash cams, 360-degree camera recording and lane assistance. These features should make Teslas safer to drive and therefore cheaper to insure than other cars.

Tesla's commitment to sustainability also contributes positively towards reducing our carbon footprint - another factor that should be taken into account when calculating insurance premiums.

We call on ICBC to review their current pricing model and ensure fair insurance rates for Tesla Model 3 owners in Surrey. We believe that our investment in advanced safety technology and environmentally friendly transportation should be rewarded with reasonable insurance costs rather than penalised with inflated premiums.
