Demand Fair Housing Selection Practices in the Kainai Community
The Issue
We are members of the "Special needs housing" community, and we recently received distressing letters indicating that our building would be closing down on May 31st. We were told that we need to seek alternative housing as crucial facilities such as the water, sewage, and power systems would be shut down. To say the least, this news was deeply disturbing and threatening to our community.
Nevertheless, a flicker of hope was provided three days later when a letter was circulated to all members of the Blood Tribe announcing the sudden availability of 15 three-bedroom units. However, this 'opportunity' seems anything but fair and transparent. It rather appears that the new homes will be pre-selected, causing many of us to doubt the fairness of this process.
We strongly opine that the housing selection process should be fair and transparent, adhering to basic human rights and dignity. An environment that promotes nepotism and pre-selection should be completely discouraged and outlawed. Housing locales should be distributed based on need, not on unfair and preferential biases.
The Kainai Community deserves fairness. Let's stand together to put a stop to these inconsistencies and demand an open and fair housing selection process. We call on the housing committee to ensure that every one of us is treated with the inalienable fairness that we so justly deserve. Please sign this petition to support us in our quest for housing justice.
