As an average teenager, I find myself in an all too familiar situation where my parents assign me chores that are blatantly unfair. I have been given the unwelcome task of cleaning up after my sister, specifically her belongings in our basement. At a time where self-development is essential, this unnecessary load is consuming a lot of my time and effort, which could easily be directed towards productive activities. Statistically, "household responsibilities can be a leading source of stress among teenagers, and can impact their overall well-being" (American Psychological Association).

My plea here isn't about shirking responsibilities, but about ensuring there is equity in what we are asked to do. Especially considering that these are not my messes to pick up, but my sister's.

Our mother, who has been managing these responsibilities, has consistently shown an unfair bias by making me bear the burden of my sister's mess. This not only promotes an unhealthy behavior in my sister but also impinges upon my personal growth.

As a person directly affected by this unfair distribution of household tasks, I urge everyone who has found themselves in similar situations to raise their voices and petition for a fair division of chores.
