Demand Fair and Equitable Legal Representation for Minority Youth in Iowa

Demand Fair and Equitable Legal Representation for Minority Youth in Iowa
The Issue
My son, a young African-American individual, has fallen victim to Iowa's judicial system, characterized by a staggering lack of fair defense and discrimination based on age, race, and county. Not only has he been attacked by his court-appointed attorney who failed to represent his interest, but he has also been victimized because of his racial background and the prejudiced atmosphere prevalent in the region where his case was committed.
My desperate pleas for a fair trial went unheeded amidst the overwhelming media attention. My son's attorney refused to request a change of venue or even consider new representation, which I strongly believe negatively impacted my son's case. I wrote two letters outlining these concerns to the judge, only for those letters to be forwarded back to the attorney we were trying to escape from, thereby intensifying the existing conflicts of interest.
It is important to note that such issues of discrimination are not isolated incidents in the state of Iowa. The state has a disproportionately high percentage of minority youths in its juvenile justice system. According to the Sentencing Project, in Iowa, Black youth are 4.8 times more likely to be committed than their white peers.
This petition is an urgent call to the US Department of Justice, the US attorney general, internal affairs, the attorney discipline board, human rights commissioners office, NAACP, and all potential whistleblowers to take immediate action and intervene. I familiarize you with the flaws of the current system in the hopes of preventing other young individuals from experiencing the same injustice that my son has. We need your help.
Through this petition, we want to make sure that every young person, regardless of their race or the county they come from, is treated fairly and given adequate representation in our legal system. This is a call for justice, equity, and reform.
Please sign this petition to join our fight for justice and a fair judicial system for all.
