This is a deeply personal plea. My boyfriend has been stabbed multiple times by an individual, yet the police have only classified it as aggravated assault. We believe this should be recognized for what it truly is - attempted murder.

Our justice system should serve to protect us, not fail us. It's time we demand that people are charged appropriately for their actions, reflecting the severity of their crimes. According to Bureau of Justice Statistics, in 2019 alone there were about 810,825 aggravated assaults reported in the United States (source: Bureau of Justice Statistics). However, how many of these were actually more severe crimes undercharged due to systemic issues?

We need our voices heard and our experiences acknowledged within our justice system. We need fair charges that reflect the true nature and severity of these violent acts.
