Demand Escambia County to Fix Chronic Flooding Issues in Westlake Subdivision

The Issue

Imagine walking into your lovely home, to find it twice soaked with several inches of water, not once but twice. This was our painful reality in 2014 and again during Hurricane Sally in 2020 - a consequence of neglected holding ponds and inadequate drainage infrastructure in Westlake Subdivision. After enjoying decades of peace and comfort, we suddenly found ourselves physically displaced, emotionally drained, and financially burdened with the cost of repair, while Escambia County passed the blame around.

We did all we could. Yet, the one party who could step in to prevent a repeat of this scenario remains irresponsibly distant. Escambia County, entrusted with planning and maintaining infrastructure for a strong community, continues to ignore the flooding problems in the Westlake Subdivision.

The county's negligence has become a ticking time bomb for us homeowners. The rain gauges don't lie. Harvey, Irma, Florence, Michael, and Sally in recent years have brought record-breaking rainfall to our area, indicating a dire need for hurried action. (Source: National Hurricane Center, NOAA)

We demand immediate action. Escambia County must take responsibility to resolve the ongoing flooding issue by repairing the failed drainage infrastructure and neglected holding ponds that continue to damage our homes and properties.

Join us in urging Escambia County to act now. Sign this petition to prevent another neighbor in the Westlake Subdivision from experiencing the financial losses and emotional agony due to unsustainable infrastructure and negligence. Together, we can make our community flood-resilient!
