Demand Equal Repair and Diagnosis Times for Warranty and Non-Warranty Automotive Services

Demand Equal Repair and Diagnosis Times for Warranty and Non-Warranty Automotive Services
The Issue
As a dealership technician, I find it disheartening to see the continuous discrepancies in repair times allocated by manufacturers for warranty repairs and recalls compared to non-warranty repairs. Not only does this practice devalue our labor and expertise, but it also sets unrealistic expectations and pressures technicians.
According to the data from the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), the average repair order consists of 2.5 hours of labor. Yet, when it comes to warranty repairs, the manufacturers pay for considerably less time. This discrepancy clearly underlines the unfair treatment of service providers for warranty repairs as compared to non-warranty procedures.
Furthermore, the same bias also exists towards the diagnosis of the repair needs. The time allocated for diagnostics during warranty procedures is often significantly less than that for non-warranty ones. Once again, this undermines our professional expertise and puts us under undue pressure to speed up the diagnostic process.
It is for these reasons we should legislate against such unequal practices in the automotive industry, similar to the groundswell of support seen for Illinois HB 3940. It's high time to make manufacturers accountable for equal treatment in all aspects of automotive repairs, both warranty and non-warranty.
I implore you to sign this petition, to ensure a fair working environment for all technicians and to uphold the quality of service that customers deserve. Our skills and labor should not be undercut due to corporate profit-seeking. It's time to demand equality. Please, sign this petition.
