As many of you know & actively saw the heart-breaking incident of racism against Uncle Ricky in Virginia City, Nevada on Aug 2, 2024. If you have not yet seen the heart breaking video, Uncle Ricky was completing his job as a poll taker when he approached Gary Miller, to ask of his voting registration. Gary’s response was to make racial hate comments towards Uncle Ricky 

*TRIGGER WARNING*  Quoted Gary Miller “I got a hanging tree for people like you” it is then that Ricky make the courageous act of exposing the following individuals that pursued to harass Ricky along with Gary Miller. (Janice Miller, Tiffany Ruiz Miller).

Since the incident has occurred Storey County took action we believe as a community ONLY because of the uproar from the video going viral. Even then all 3 suspects were charged with only misdemeanor offenses. They wrapped the investigation in less then 48 hrs with hardly any extension to third parties to TRULY investigate. Had it been investigated, Storey County would have seen the sheriff & sheriffs department share a close relationship with Mike Cullen & many fellow Storey County officers. This was found evidently by the community on the FireHouse Saloon Facebook page. Which since has been taken down. Where in a post a picture of the sheriff is posted with the suspects, & named “close friends” of the Millers. There are also MULTIPLE pictures of various bartenders throughout Virginia City where noose pins on their vest, also pictured on the FireHouse Saloon Facebook page, as said before it has since been taken down. 

We are petitioning for a just and unbiased reconsideration of his case outside of Storey County, where we believe the system of justice is corrupt and unable to serve him appropriately. We call on the Governor to intervene and relocate Uncle Ricky's case to either Washoe County or any other nearby county without the involvement of Storey County, as the Sheriff (Mike Cullen) of Storey County poses a direct conflict of interest and we are confident this prejudice extends to the wider judicial system within the county. Many locals of Virginia City, have spoken out to say they stand with e the suspects of the case, not our known victim. Uncle Ricky, like every other citizen, has the constitutional right to a fair trial and a neutral jury, something we fear is not possible under the current circumstances in Storey County. We can no longer trust a system that shows racial bias and protects those who serve it, instead of serving justice. This is not just a fight for Uncle Ricky, but a fight for justice, equality, and the right to a fair trial for every individual.
