Demand Enfield Council remove & rethink double yellow line chaos

The Issue

For years, the small independent businesses Chi Chi’s and Babinondas, along with The Woodberry Practice, a local doctor's surgery, have been beloved institutions in Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill. These establishments have tirelessly worked to build their businesses and serve their patrons and patients - people who come not only for a meal but also for essential healthcare services. However, Enfield Council's recent decision to implement double yellow lines and width restrictors on Barrowell Green Lanes is threatening these establishments' survival. It will also divert heavy vehicles and additional traffic onto Firs Lane as they will have no other access point to essential services such as Barrowell Green Lanes Recycling Centre.

This move by the council has far-reaching implications. It does not just affect these businesses; it impacts patients, customers and local residents of Woodberry Avenue, Green Lanes, Barrowell Green Lane, Firs Lane and surrounding roads. This decision is not considering the needs of local communities or the safely of school children regularly walking along Firs Lane, which will soon be backed-up with heavy goods vehicles avoiding the ever-increasing number of width restrictors.

The introduction of these restrictions will undoubtedly create unnecessary difficulties for those seeking medical attention at The Woodberry Practice or wanting to support local businesses like Chi Chi’s and Babinondas. This is an attack on our community's heart - its small businesses and health services that are already struggling amidst challenging times.

What’s more infuriating is that there is a practical solution! On the corner of Barrowell Green Lanes, opposite the surgery and Chi Chi’s, there is a large piece of unused land, being regularly maintained and constantly secured at tax payers expense, which could provide greatly needed parking for the area.

We urge Enfield Council to immediately reconsider this decision and remove the double yellow lines and cease implementation of the width restrictors from Barrowell Green Lanes. Put their heads together, do the right thing and create parking within this unused space to help and support its constituents, local businesses and essential services.

If they are genuinely concerned about the safety of the bridge on Barrowell Green Lanes then they need to fix the bridge and not set this senseless chain of inconveniences in motion at the expense of everyone in the local area.

Let’s support our cherished institutions by going against these ill thought-out measures that could lead to their downfall.

Please sign this petition if you believe in standing up against such actions that threaten our community's well-being for mere monetary gain.
