Demand Emergency Road Access for Disabled Family Now
The Issue
My daughter and I are both disabled, and since Hurricane Helene, we have been living in limbo. The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) has refused to repair the damaged access road to our home in the Pisgah National Forest, leaving us displaced and in a dire situation.
Our once safe haven has become a ticking time bomb. Without the necessary road repairs, we are barred from accessing our property where we must contend with unchecked mold growth, structural collapse, and even visible slope failure behind the house. A USFS Ranger admitted that delays would exacerbate the damage — and now, true to their word, that damage is happening right before our eyes.
Hurricane Helene's destruction is one thing, but the consistent inaction from the USFS is another. The refusal to repair the road is not just administrative negligence; for us, it’s a potential total loss of our home and livelihood. Waiting is no longer an option — we need emergency intervention now.
I'm reaching out because our stress is compounded by our disabilities, making the loss of our home all the more significant. Our homestead is our refuge, yet it's slipping away due to preventable neglect.
The USFS has the ability to rectify this situation with urgency. We demand that they repair the road immediately. By doing so, they can halt the irreversible damage to our home and prevent us from completely losing our sanctuary.
Please sign this petition to urge the U.S. Forest Service to take immediate action to repair the access road to our disabled family’s homestead. Your support could save our home.
