Demand Dublin City Council to Reverse Its Order and Apologise for Mural Removal

The Issue

I am personally invested in peaceful co-existence, just like countless others in our community. When Peadar Browns Public House on Clanbrassil Street erected a mural titled "Saoirse Don Phalaistin" - "Peace for Palestine", they were representing the voice and sentiments of our cosmopolitan city — Dublin. The order from Dublin City Council to remove this mural contradicts the values and ethos of the citizens they represent.

Embracing calls for peace should be paramount, not alienating those who promote it. It's disheartening to recall that a Gallup Poll reported in The Journal showed majority of Irish people support Palestine's right to statehood (Murphy, 2019). Therefore, this disdainful act calls into question the representativeness of our City Council.

This is why we demand Dublin City Council to not only reverse their order but also to issue a written apology to the owner of Peadar Browns Public House. We stand united, advocating for peace in Palestine and upholding the respect for artistic freedom in our city. It’s time to rectify this. Please sign this petition and stand up for free speech and the right to peace.
