The Issue

My lifelong passion for cats and their welfare has led me to raise this urgent issue. As a cat enthusiast and advocate, I am deeply concerned about the practices at the Devore Animal Shelter in San Bernardino, California. The shelter is currently accepting trapped stray/feral cats only to euthanize them - an act that not only ends innocent lives but also causes unnecessary suffering.

The situation is dire as rescues are overwhelmed with trying to save these cats. Despite their best efforts, they cannot keep up with the influx of felines being brought into Devore Animal Shelter. This practice is not just cruel; it's unsustainable.

According to data from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 860,000 cats are euthanized in U.S shelters annually. This statistic underscores a nationwide problem that we can start addressing locally by changing policies at our own animal shelters.

We implore San Bernardino's local government and animal control officials to halt this practice immediately at Devore Animal Shelter. We must prioritize humane solutions such as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs which have been proven effective in managing feral cat populations without resorting to euthanasia.

Our community must come together for these voiceless creatures who rely on us for compassion and care. Please sign this petition today and help us end needless cruelty towards stray/feral cats in San Bernardino.
