The Issue

I had my MMR vaccines when I was a baby back in 1952. When my three daughters were born, they also received their vaccines. So what makes RFK Jr., who also had his vaccines, decide with no knowledge, to claim vaccines are bad for everyone? It breaks my heart to see children suffering because parents, influenced by misinformation, opted out of vaccinating their kids. Currently, there's an epidemic of measles, a potentially deadly disease, affecting many children who are needlessly suffering. I wonder how those parents feel now, watching their children endure severe illnesses that vaccines could have prevented.

In light of this alarming situation, I am calling on the Delaware Health Department to continue upholding vaccine funding and ensuring wide availability and accessibility of vaccines across Wilmington, DE, and beyond. Vaccines have proven to be one of the most significant achievements in public health, dramatically reducing the prevalence of infectious diseases.

For decades, vaccines have protected our communities from outbreaks of diseases like measles, mumps, and rubella. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccines have averted millions of cases of diseases and thousands of deaths. In 2000, measles was declared eliminated in the U.S.; however, recent outbreaks highlight the consequences of declining vaccination rates.

Particularly concerning is RFK Jr.’s continued dissemination of anti-vaccination rhetoric, influencing people to disregard medical advice rooted in scientific truth. This harmful spread of misinformation undermines public health efforts and puts all children at risk.

Therefore, it is imperative for the Delaware Health Department to resist such erroneous claims and continue investing in vaccine programs. Funding should be directed towards community education and resources to support families in understanding the life-saving importance of vaccines.

We must take a stand for immunization, leveraging education to combat misinformation, and ensure robust vaccine funding remains a priority. Please join me in demanding that the Delaware Health Department remain a steadfast advocate for vaccines, shield our children from preventable diseases, and protect public health.

Sign this petition to support this crucial cause and call on our health leaders to continue defending and promoting vaccination for the wellbeing of our community.
