The Issue

Living in a community where data centers have become part of the landscape, I've seen firsthand how their presence can negatively impact our neighborhoods. It’s not just about having these massive structures in our vicinity; it’s about the profound effects they have on our local environment and our quality of life. Many residents have reported changes in water quality, landscapes transformed by industrialization, and an increase in utility bills. These challenges shouldn't be the burden of local families to bear but rather should be a responsibility shared by the corporations profiting from these facilities.

We demand that data centers conduct rigorous environmental impact assessments to ensure they are not polluting local water supplies. Any identified issues must be swiftly corrected at the expense of the data centers themselves. As our neighborhoods transform to accommodate the digital world, it’s critical that these transformations include commitments to enhancing—not detracting from—our local environment. We call for data centers to plant forests or gardens in and around their structures, effectively blending with the natural environment and maintaining the aesthetic and ecological balance.

Moreover, the concentration of data centers in any given area needs to be reconsidered. It is essential to implement limits to safeguard our neighborhoods from being overwhelmed and losing their valued ambiance. Alongside this, we urge these centers to transition to fully self-sustainable and eco-friendly operations. By greenifying their buildings, they can ensure that rather than becoming eyesores, they contribute positively to our local views and landscape.

Furthermore, any increase in local utility bills due to their operations should be shouldered by the companies and not passed on to local residents. This is a fair approach to ensure that while businesses grow, community well-being is not compromised.

By signing this petition, you are standing up for the preservation of our local environment and the protection of community standards. Please join us in urging data centers to be accountable and proactive in their sustainability efforts.
