Demand Consistent Access to College Gymnasium for Healthy Living

The Issue

As a valued member of our college community, I am profoundly concerned about the intermittent accessibility of our gymnasium facilities, disrupting the ability of students to maintain a regular healthy exercise routine. Restricting access to these core facilities not only disrupts the physical health routine of our students, but it can inadvertently promote sedentary habits, paving the way for obesity.

Our college gymnasium is not simply a room with fitness equipment; it is a hub for basketball, volleyball, and numerous other sports that many depend on for their primary physical activity. However, our gymnasium's schedule is often compromised due to various other events that could potentially be held elsewhere.

Statistics from the World Health Organization highlight the importance of maintaining regular exercise, stating that physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality, accounting for 6% of deaths globally. As students, our schedules are already burdened by academic pressure, making it all the more essential to have constant access to one of the precious few escape avenues catering to our wellness needs.

I am urging our administration to consider this plea, to reconsider the scheduling conflicts, and to allow unhindered access to our collective commitment to fitness and overall well-being. Let's stand for the health of our college community and promote active lifestyles rather than restriction. Please, sign this petition to demand that our college gymnasium stays open for us, every day of the week.
