Demand Congressional Accountability: Term Limits, Pay Reform, and Public Voting Power

The Issue

We, the people of the United States, call for immediate reforms to ensure that Congress serves the public—not personal interests.

It’s time to implement term limits for members of the House and Senate to prevent career politicians from holding power indefinitely and becoming disconnected from the people they represent.

> During government shutdowns, federal workers are furloughed without pay, forced to wait for back pay once the government reopens. In contrast, members of Congress continue to receive their full salaries throughout the shutdown. This is unacceptable. If our government can’t function, no one in power should be paid until it does. And if lawmakers fail to fulfill their duties and keep the government open, they should not receive back pay. This double standard must end. If public servants must sacrifice, so should elected officials.

> When Congress reaches a gridlock and cannot agree on critical legislation, the decision should be put to a national vote—allowing the American people to have the final say on issues that affect their lives.

> Members of Congress should not have the authority to decide on matters that directly affect their own pay, benefits, job security, or working conditions. That’s a clear conflict of interest. Would anyone vote against their own raise or perks? Of course not. That’s why decisions about Congressional compensation and privileges should be made by the American people or overseen by an independent body that represents the public—not the politicians themselves. Congress works for the people. So when it comes to decisions about their own positions, the people—not Congress—should have the final say.

> We demand that when Congress is at a  gridlock and cannot agree on critical legislation and the government is shutdown that we the American people do not pay in taxes out of our wages. If the government is not open why should we pay in at that time?

These reforms are common sense. They reflect the values of fairness, transparency, and democracy. We urge lawmakers to act now—or we will continue to raise our voices until change is made.

We, the American people, demand fairness, accountability, and the restoration of true democracy.

For too long, power has been concentrated in the hands of those who disregard the will of the people and undermine the values that define our nation. It’s time to rise, speak out, and reclaim the America we believe in—an America built on justice, integrity, and the voice of its citizens.

This may not go far—but it’s a start. Let’s show them how the American people truly feel.
