Demand Congress to Restrict Unwanted Political Text Messages

The Issue

I write this petition as a citizen plagued by the incessant barrage of unsolicited political text messages. Despite countless efforts to opt-out and block these messages, it seems they keep coming, each from a different number. Unacceptably, campaigns are circumventing existing regulations by distributing phone numbers to individual campaign workers.

Such intrusion in our personal space begs us to question the deficiencies in the current regulation. As it stands, companies whom we have never conducted business with are forbidden to send text messages and must respect an "opt-out". However, political entities seem to have carved an exception for themselves.

Hence, it is time we demand a change in legislation. This petition calls upon Congress to pass a new regulation prohibiting the sending of political text messages to numbers obtained from readily available lists distributed by a central organization, such as political parties. It is only fair that politicians are held to the same standards as any other organization.

Such an intrusive form of campaigning must be halted.  Let's stand together, preserving our personal space and stopping these unwanted political texts. Sign this petition and call upon our legislators to take  action.
