Demand Congress to Maintain Taxation Levels for Wealthy Americans

The Issue

I am driven to start this petition due to a deeply personal reason. My disabled brother resides in a nursing home and his care depends significantly on Medicaid—a safety net threatened by the House Budget plan's extreme cuts. Across the nation, such stories are not unique; they underline the urgency of maintaining and strengthening our social safety networks.

As a nation, we are at a critical juncture. We cannot afford to cut taxes for our wealthiest citizens while inadequately funding and staffing our government. This approach not only jeopardizes essential services provided by agencies but also risks pushing us towards socio-economic models we're striving to avoid—be it a third-world Banana Republic or a Russian-style oligarchy.

It's vital to remember that according to many economic reports the economic gains of the past 40 years have gone disproportionally to the top .10% while Americans have lower and lower buying power.  The tax cuts by President Trump in his first term added over 4 trillion dollars to the national debt while his current tax cut plan would add an additional 4+ trillion dollars to the national debt. The DOGE personnel cuts have not saved much money.  There are reforms to be enacted by Congress that would strengthen Social Security and streamline our services.

This is a call to stop detrimental actions like the DOGE firings, thoughtless cuts on services we rely upon, the unjust enrichment of the wealthy at the expense of ordinary Americans—a tactic that only erodes the Constitutional Separation of Powers and church-state distinction we hold sacred.

Ultimately, this is a call to Congress: Stop the deceit, cease the misguided actions, and start working to genuinely serve the American people; the very people you are commissioned to represent. The prosperity of our nation rests on fairness and responsibility. Sign this petition to demand that Congress increases taxation levels for wealthy Americans whilst safeguarding essential services. We deserve better.
