Demand Congress to end unlawful ICE actions

Demand Congress to end unlawful ICE actions
The Issue
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, a federal entity of the United States Department of Homeland Security, has come under intense scrutiny for its actions that many consider to be unlawful and inhumane. Numerous reports and personal testimonies have highlighted instances of family separations, indefinite detentions, and deplorable conditions in detention facilities. These practices not only contravene basic human rights but also tarnish the reputation of the United States as a nation that upholds justice and fairness.
Alarming reports from reputable sources such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Human Rights Watch indicate that ICE has been involved in unlawful detainment of individuals, some of whom are asylum seekers, without due process. The agency’s actions have led to widespread fear and trauma among immigrant communities, including children. This has resulted in severe psychological impacts, violating fundamental rights to family unity and a life free from abuse.
Moreover, the ICE’s operational procedures often bypass accountability due to systemic issues within the agency. There are multiple documented cases where conditions inside ICE detention centers fail to meet minimum health and safety standards. In 2019, CNN revealed that detainees were kept in overcrowded cells, deprived of basic necessities like sufficient food and medical care. Such conditions reflect a glaring disregard for human dignity and U.S. constitutional principles.
To address these issues, Congress must take IMMEDIATE action. The terror happening in Minnesota and around the nation must stop NOW. We demand the following:
ICE agents must immediately stop concealing their identity and must wear badges that clearly identify them by name and title. This badge must be visible to the public at all times.
Individuals with a past felony conviction must NOT be allowed to work for homeland security, Custom and Border Patrol or Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This includes individuals who have been pardoned for crimes committed on January 6, 2021 at the capital.
Any ICE agent who uses racially defamatory, sexually defamatory or personally insulting language will be immediately put on unpaid leave and an INDEPENDENT investigation into their conduct will be initiated and completed before they can return to work.
Agents will not be allowed into medical facilities UNLESS they show the proper personnel an arrest warrant signed by a judge who clearly indicates why it is necessary to apprehend the persona while they are still under medical care.
Nobody under the age of 18 years will be touched by agents unless they are a current and active threat to others or there is a warrant for their arrest signed by a judge.
No agent will attempt to enter the home of ANYONE unless they have a warrant for the individuals arrest signed by a judge.
A thorough background investigation will be performed on anyone being considered for a position as an agent including review of online presence including social media. If the individual has made statements that promote violence, are racially or sexually derogatory or indicate they are a member of any extremist group, they will not be considered.
Current members of law enforcement will not be considered for positions unless they are willing to resign their position as a law enforcement officer.
A comprehensive de-escalation training program must be implemented and completed by every agent. Physical force will only be used when all other methods have been attempted or their is an immediate risk of harm to others.
We call for a comprehensive reform of ICE policies, emphasizing transparency and accountability. This includes establishing independent oversight to regularly review ICE operations and ensure compliance with human rights standards. Additionally, there must be a complete halt to family separations and indefinite detentions, prioritizing alternatives to detention that are humane and respect people’s rights.
Immigrants are part of the backbone of America, contributing to its cultural and economic growth. It is time we treat them with the respect and dignity they deserve. We urge Congress to act swiftly in curtailing ICE's unlawful practices to restore justice and uphold the values our nation stands for. Members of congress who do not take action or vote against action to reign in ICE, will be voted out of office in the next election.
Sign this petition to demand immediate Congressional action to stop ICE’s unlawful and inhumane activities. Together, we can advocate for justice and human rights.
