The Issue

On March 4th, 2002, Air Force Combat Controller John Champan, died valiantly on Takur Ghar Mountain in Afghanistan while saving the lives of 23 men.  He was left to die by SEAL TEAM SIX team leader Britt Slabinksi.

After leading the charge up the mountain, killing several enemy fighters and being struck multiple times, Chapman was knocked to the ground and appeared out of the fight.  Slabinski, without checking on Chapman for vitals, decided to pull out and leave Chapman - claiming overwhelming gunfire on their position.  Slabinski was heard telling the AC130 gunship flying overhead that there were "possible KIA's" on the mountain and then called for 105mm fire on the top of the mountain - right where Chapman was last seen.

Shortly after the 105mm assault ended, Chapman was seen on the ISR feed getting to his feet, fighting for another 80 minutes until his very last round was expended.  He was even seen engaging in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy.  Sadly, he finally succumbed to his 16 wounds and died on the mountain.

Afterwards, the SEAL's concocted a story that minimized Chapman's true heroics and attributed many of his actions to Britt Slabinski.  Had the ISR feed footage and SIGINT technology not been combined to identify all the members of the team on that mission 13 years later - they would have gotten away with it.  As a result of the new evidence, the Air Force put Chapman in for an upgraded medal - the Medal of Honor.  When Naval Special Warfare found this out, they actively tried to block Chapman's package while submitting Slabinski in for the same upgrade (denied by DoD at least 3 times).  In the end, a deal was brokered between the Air Force and Navy - if the Air Force agreed to let Slabinski get his MoH then the Navy would not stop Chapman from getting his.  Only caveat was that Slabinski had to receive his first.

The reality is this - Britt Slabinski didn't get wounded in battle.  He didn't save any one's life that rose to the level of receiving a Medal of Honor.  What he did do was leave Chapman behind to die on that mountain alone.  He did steal Chapman's valor for over a decade.  He did actively try to maintain the cover up by conspiring with NSW and SEAL TEAM SIX in blocking Chapman's MoH package.  And he continues to maintain the lie to this day as a board member of the National Medal of Honor Museum where Chapman was once again robbed of his due accolades during their grand opening event on 3/23 and 3/24.  Note: Britt Slabinski was also unqualified to ever receive a MoH due to two disqualifying events - he was kicked out of SEAL TEAM SIX and accused multiple times of war crimes.

I am asking everyone to contact their members of Congress and demand that Britt Slabinski's Medal of Honor be rescinded.  For more information on the truth about what happened on Takur Ghar Mountain in Afghanistan, please watch the ISR video footage here:
