The Issue

Money in politics affects everything in our daily lives: from healthcare costs to housing, wages and even environmental protections. When corporations and billionaires can funnel unlimited money into elections, politicians often become beholden to their wealthy donors rather than to their voters. This unbalanced influence means that policies are frequently written to benefit the few, while ordinary citizens without the resources to compete get left behind. This gets worse when those same politicians remain in office for decades, becoming even more out of touch from normal life.

The good news? We have the power to make this stop. Politicians won't reform a system that benefits them, unless we force their hand. Sign this petition and tell Congress that elections belong to voters, not donors.

WHY ARE MY HEALTHCARE COSTS SO HIGH? The healthcare industry is the single largest lobbying spender at the federal level. They spent $743.9 million in 2024. What did that money get them in return? It kept politicians in Washington from drafting common sense legislation that would lower our healthcare costs.

Poll after poll shows that Medicare for All is supported by a majority of Americans, yet it never makes it to a vote. That's not a coincidence. That's a purchase.

WHY ARE WE AT WAR WITH IRAN? Defense contractors that manufacture weapons spent hundreds of millions of dollars lobbying the politicians that decide whether America goes to war. Companies that profit from conflict, fund the campaigns of the same lawmakers who authorize it. They are literally paying to place politicians in office that will send us to war.

The crux of the problem lies in the way campaign finance laws currently operate, allowing for disproportionate influences by affluent individuals and corporations rather than representing the true will of the electorate. This situation not only devalues our votes but also erodes faith in the democratic system as a whole.

Reforming campaign finance laws is crucial. By setting clear limits on the money that can be donated to campaigns, banning foreign contributions, and limiting the power of politicians to gain wealth while in office, we can start to restore the integrity of our elections and federal offices. More transparency will hold politicians accountable to their constituents and ensure that our elected leaders prioritize the interests of the general public over those with the most money.

So how do we solve this? A bill with the following reforms can transform our political system from the ground up:

  • Limit Big Money
    • Ban Super PAC's
    • Overturn Citizens United
    • Cap individual donations to $3,500 per US citizen, per candidate, per year.
    • Ban direct campaign contributions from corporations
    • Make full disclosure a requirement for all campaign donations so we as a country know who donates to who
  • Congressional Reform
    • Term Limits for both houses of Congress
    • Completely ban all members of Congress from trading stocks
  • Electoral Reform
    • Ranked choice voting
    • Open primaries
    • Independent redistricting commissions to end gerrymandering for good

Passing these reforms can transform our political landscape into a more just, honest, and representative system where policies reflect the needs and aspirations of all citizens, regardless of party - not just the wealthy.

It's time to prioritize the voices of all voters over dollars. Sign this petition and demand that Congress put people before donors once and for all.
