As a resident of Dallas, TX, I am personally affected by the harsh cold weather that has recently hit our city. It's not just uncomfortable - it's dangerously cold. Dallas Independent School District (ISD) has a responsibility towards its students and staff members to ensure their safety. However, despite the severe weather warnings issued by The National Weather Service, schools remain open. According to data from The National Severe Storms Laboratory, exposure to such extreme cold can lead to frostbite and hypothermia.

It's time for Dallas ISD to prioritize the health and safety of its students over maintaining regular school schedules during severe weather conditions. We urge Dallas ISD officials to consider closing schools when there are severe weather warnings in place.
