I am a resident of Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines. Every day, I witness the deteriorating state of our public spaces. These areas are not only unclean but also unsafe, posing a significant health risk to vulnerable individuals such as children and the elderly.

According to data from the Department of Health (DOH), diseases related to poor sanitation such as diarrhea and respiratory infections are among the top causes of morbidity in our city. This is a clear indication that our environment directly affects our health.

The World Health Organization states that clean environments can help reduce disease transmission. It is therefore crucial for us to demand action from local government units in maintaining cleanliness and safety in public spaces.

We cannot afford to ignore this issue any longer. The health risks associated with unclean public spaces affect us all, but they disproportionately impact those who are most vulnerable - those who have no choice but to use these areas daily.

Let's urge the local government of Manila to prioritize cleanliness and safety measures for all public spaces across our city. Our health depends on it.
