Colorado's Supreme Court ruled this year that Children's Hospital Colorado likely broke the law when it stopped providing gender-affirming care to transgender patients under 18. A Denver district judge then issued a clear order: the hospital must resume providing medically necessary gender-affirming care — including hormone prescriptions and puberty-blockers — to its transgender patients.

The hospital says its doctors — who work at the TRUE Center for Gender Diversity — have individually decided not to write those prescriptions, citing fears of prosecution under the Trump administration. Children's says it cannot force their hand. But Colorado's courts have already ruled that withholding this care is likely discrimination. A hospital cannot sidestep a court order by pointing to the people it employs.

Transgender youth and their families are living through this uncertainty right now. They have diagnoses. They have doctors. They have a court order. And they still cannot get the care they need from the very institution whose name promises to put children first.
