The Issue

On January 17 2025, the Department of the Interior Solicitor- Robert Anderson made a determination that the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians has concurrent jurisdiction with Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma on the Cherokee Reservation. The decision by Mr. Anderson states that the UKB is and has always been co-owners and stewards of the Cherokee reservation. For more about this please read the letter for yourself here

My wife and children are all enrolled UKB members. We find our place in Cherokee culture where 'Gadugi' signifies mutual sharing and meeting the needs of fellow tribal citizens. However, it deeply saddens us to witness Cherokee Nation foster our cultural identity while simultaneously launching attacks against their fellow Cherokees in the UKB, impacting my family and the future of all UKB citizens significantly.

Our plea is simple. Respect and practice the principles founded on 'Gadugi'. We request the Cherokee Nation to allow the UKB access to land that the latter can entrust with the federal government. This would enable UKB to establish gaming operations and facilities for tribal citizens, thus fostering an environment of growth and solidarity.

At the same time, we also ask for an immediate cease to the propaganda campaign against UKB directed by Cherokee Nation. Such actions are an attempt to erase the tribe, its history, and its people. Each smear in the media is a deep cut to Keetoowah cultural roots, tearing apart not just our present, but our past and our future.

Join us and help bring an end to this prejudiced behaviour. Give the UKB the respect, the recognition and the land rights they deserve. It is time to remember the essence of 'Gadugi' - unity, aid, and fraternity. Please sign this petition to raise your voice against this unjust treatment and stand beside the Cherokee people.
