New leadership is needed to bring the HSH up to standard including appointing a new working Board of Directors, shelter management and staff. We want the Humane Society of Hobart to be operated in a truly humane and transparent manner.

New leadership is needed to bring the HSH up to standard including appointing a new working Board of Directors, shelter management and staff. We want the Humane Society of Hobart to be operated in a truly humane and transparent manner.
The Issue
This petition is phase 2 of an attempt to initiate change at the Humane Society of Hobart. The 1st phase was letters sent to each registered board member from various individuals across NW Indiana with no response.
The Humane Society of Hobart has a documented history of mismanagement and mistreatment of finances and the animals in their care. Decision-making appears random and impulsive. Recently, when it became publicly known that a dog which had been brought to HSH after having been hit by a car was left to suffer for two days, almost immediately they give us a heartwarming story of a wild duck that was hit by a car that the shelter rushed to the vet. Nor is there any rhyme or reason to decisions to euthanize: Sugar, an abused puppy who had a rescue waiting to take her, care for her injuries, and find her a home killed for reasons nobody seems to know. There are always empty kennels there though.
There is gross negligence of things such as safe cleaning protocols and basic shelter care, with known toxins utilized on a regular basis. The Humane Society of Hobart doesn't own a scale allowing for improper dosing of medications, which can cause animals to be seriously harmed. Worse, when euthanasia’s are performed guessing the weight of an animal, it's anything but a painless experience. This is a disgrace. The documented list of horrors is long and heartbreaking. What has been described above is only the tip of the iceberg.
The response to any attempts to change these practices has been to lie and play the victim role. When that hasn't been enough, people are intimidated, and just recently the director's daughter threatened to assault an individual and a threat to a former employee who she felt was behind the movement for change. There are legitimate questions about their fiscal matters, such as inconsistencies on their tax returns. These are not the practices of an organization that has nothing to hide.
We the residents of NW Indiana financially support this organization and have a right to know how that money is spent. Animal lovers everywhere call for animals in their care to be handled with respect and compassion, and given every possible chance to have a new life.
