As a single mother of twins about to turn 9, I have spent the last nine years battling with Centrelink over payments. My second twin is non-existent in their eyes. They do not classify twins as multiple individuals! This is not just about the financial support, although it would undoubtedly bring relief and assistance to thousands of parents. It's about recognising BOTH my children as separate individuals, not merely 'A TWIN' that the government perceives as ONE entity. How demeaning is that?

This issue extends beyond my personal experience; it affects many families across Australia who are raising twins or multiple children simultaneously. 1 in 80 births in Australia are twins ! That's a significant number of families potentially facing this same struggle.

We need Centrelink and our government to acknowledge each child individually - because each child matters and deserves recognition. We urge them to amend their policies and procedures so that they accurately reflect the realities faced by families with multiple births.
